The Soap Factory is one of Leeds newest cocktail bars, part of Novotel, in the prime location of Whitehall Quay (just down past the train station).
A few Fridays ago I paid a visit for the first time. I was in town anyway and in desperate need of some post-work drinks. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. When you think hotel bar, you think: no personality, expensive and probably corporate. But The Soap Factory is none of these things. It’s relaxed, friendly, stylish and fair priced. The décor is also really nice, they’ve definitely played on the soap theme with a chair that’s a bath tub, a shower selfie station and bubbles everywhere – the mirrors, the lighting and of course incorporated into the bubbly cocktails.
Apparently the name was chosen in honour of the legendary local entrepreneur Joseph Watson of Watson & Sons and his Whitehall Soap Works – it’s definitely a different and memorable name for a bar!
Of course one drink turned into a bottle of prosecco and then we couldn’t resist ordering lots of food. We ended up going for the Soapy Joe burger (which is a monster), some slider burgers (great for a taste of each one) and far too many chips. The food was simple and delicious and the atmosphere was really chilled, there was music playing but it wasn’t too loud so we could still have a good natter.
So if you’re wanting to try somewhere new for an after work bevvy or pre-drinks, give The Soap Factory a try I’d definitely recommend it. Let me know what you think if you do!
